- Grandpa Joe is a horrible person. He most likely mentally ill. When charlie wins the ticket Joe says "I got a golden ticket." but it's not his is it? He expects charlie to let him go. That self absorbed jerk he lays down all day for 30 years but when Charlie gets the ticket he does a full dance.

- My son was completely addicted to watching this movie on VHS when he was young. One day he came to me and said, "I don't like Grandpa Joe." I was confused and asked him why and he told me, "Grandpa Joe tries to make Charlie go blind." I asked him to show me on the tape and he showed me this part where Grandpa Joe yells at Charlie to "look at the sun". I told him he had a good point, Grandpa Joe was definitely evil.
